A scenic hiking adventure
On Sunday morning, we left as usual, the 254 drifters, for our third place to visit, of course after Oloolua and Karura (both in my blog). Nestled just 25 kilometers southwest of Nairobi expect to be mesmerized by the splendid beauty as you encounter the blowing Ngong hills, with their breathtaking view and refreshing trails, best for hiking for both starters and professionals. Do not forget to carry your camera to record the amazing experience as you hike through the 7 hills.
In about one and half hours of bustling urban landscapes, we soon found ourselves on the winding roads leading into the serene landscape. The air was cool, a refreshing change from the bustle of city life. Equipped with hiking boots, a backpack filled with essentials we were set for the hike. The charges were 242 shillings per person and there's a guard in every hill to confirm the payment.
The terrain varied from gentle slopes to steep ascents offering both challenges and rewards along the way. As we navigated the paths, we were greeted by the scenic views of the rift valley, with its
undulating landscapes stretching out before us. The sight was inspiring, a reminder of the raw beauty of nature.
Along the trail we paused often to admire the native plants, listen to the songs of bird's overhead, and feel the gentle breeze against our skinn. These moments of connection reminded me of the importance of preserving natural places for future generations.
After several hours of hiking, we finally reached the highest point, 2460 meters, of the hills. Standing atop the summit, we were rewarded with 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape. The city of Nairobi glittered in the distance curves of nearby hills. It was a moment of serenity and top of the physical and mental challenges overcome throughout the journey.
Interacting with the local Maasai communities along the trail was another highlight of our adventure. Known for their vibrant culture and deep connection to the land, the Maasai people offered a spot into their traditional way of life. Their warm hospitality and colorful attire added a cultural richness to the hiking experience, making it not just a physical journey but a journey of cultural exchange and understanding
The 16.7 kilometers hike is definitely not complete without taking a picture of the majestic hundreds of wind turbines all over the hills. Whether you are hiker or someone looking to reconnect with nature, Ngong hills offers an experience that is both enriching and transformative. As I look back on my journey, I am reminded of the words of John Muir: "In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he/she seeks."
